The Bestest Friend - Chapter Three

The two kids run hastily onto the playground, greeted by newly
familiar faces of the rest of their class. Jade still doesn't know
anybody, except for Karkat and Dave. She notices Dave sitting under
one of the slides with another boy, which she reconizes. He almost
reminds Jade of herself. Black hair, overbite, bright coloured eyes,
glasses... Maybe he was her long lost brother! That probably isn't
the case, though.


She quickly runs up to them, her ponytail waving behind her and
accidently wacking Karkat in the face a few times. She slides down
on the woodchips beside the two boys, giving a friendly wave.

Karkat grumbles and looks away. He begins his trudge over to another
boy. He had big messy hair and some paint smeared across his face.

Jade quickly, as if acting on instinct, grabs Karkat's leg and pulls
him down beside him.

"Ow! What the heck?" He says, crossing his arms over his chest again.

They all stay quiet for a moment.

"Sorry that I was telling her the truuuth!" Dave says quietly

"Dave, you really should say sorry..." spoke up the boy behind him.

"Fine. I'm sorry." Dave huffed.

The other boy crawled up from behind Dave and smiled at Jade.

"Hi! I'm John, and I'm in your class, remember? I sit behind Dave
and he sit s beside you and it's really good to meet you, we haven't
had a new kind in foreeeever." He trails off.

"You can be quiet now!" Karkat pipes up.

"Heehee, I'm Jade!" She was clearly delighted to have been introduced
finally. One step closer to becomming friends with the whole class!

There was still an awkward, but sorta cute, tension between Dave and Karkat.
Both scowling smally at eachother, with their arms crossed and brows furowed.

John and Jade both ran off the play, dragging their companions behind them.
Karkat was struggling to keep up with Jade's fast pace and stumbled over
his feet a few times. Jade grabbed his hand and helped him gain his balance
back, John doing the same for Dave.

They ran around chasing eachother, giggling madly while doing so, for most
of the recess break.

The bell eventually rang, which indicated that the kids must come inside for
lunch time.

They all ran eagerly to the door, chatting amoungst their small groups
of friends.

Vriska, Terezi, Kanaya and Rose talking about who knows what. Gamzee and Tavros
playing around. Sollow and Eridan arguing at eachother, lips stuck out
in a pout. Equius giving Nepeta a piggy back. Aradia and Feferi arm and
arm skipping up to the doors.

The grade ones rushed inside and strait to their cubbies, grabbing their
lunch bags and sprinting to their desks. Jade remained more calm, as usual
compared to the other 6 and 7 year olds. She returned to her desk and pulled
up her chair, beginning to pull out parts of her lunch and starting to eat

The rest were talking noisally, the room filled with laughter and giggling.
Karkat, on the other hand, wasn't. He sat quietly, eating his sandwhich
without a peep from the small boy. Nepeta was poking him repeatadly, he
didn't seem to care.

Meanwhile, Terezi was trying to steal parts of Dave's lunch. He, whining
childishly, slapped her hand away and threated to tell the teacher.

Jade sat amoung the clutter and loudness of the first grade room, smiling
to herself. She let a small sigh slip, looking over to see Karkat still
grouchy and crouched down, nibbling on his sandwhich.

"Are you alright?" She asks again.

No reply. What a surprise.

Jade now had a mission. Her mission was to make Karkat her friend. Whether
he liked it or not.
